Abstract:	This thesis analyzes the co-referentiality in the restrictive and appositive relative constructions in the Brazilian Sign Language (LSB). The corpus is composed of data produced in LSB by participants who identify themselves as deaf (which was confirmed by an audiometry exam) and who use LSB as the main means of communication. The data collection comprised the preparation of the input, through images organized in slides containing two pieces of information about the same referent. Participants were asked to produce a single sentence, combining the two pieces of information in relation to that referent. The productions were recorded on video and the images corresponding to the articulation of each signal were frozen for analysis and the sentences were registered using the Sign Language Writing System – SEL. For the formal analysis of these relative constructions, we start from the following theoretical postulates: (i) there is a necessary relationship between the antecedent DP and the type of relative sentence – restrictive or appositive ( SMITH, 1964); (ii) the relative ones are CP structures that complement a DP of the matrix clause, producing the D0CP structure ( KAYNE, 1994); (iii) in the that-relative, the relative pronoun is born in the nuclear position C0 and can be null ( KAYNE, 1994); (iv) in the German Sign Language (from German, DGS), the relative are structures with external nominal nucleus, which does not belong to the scope of non-manual marking that introduces the relative, while in Italian Sign Language (from Italian, LIS) they are structures with internal nominal nucleus, which, in the restrictive ones, plays the role of subject in the matrix and in the relative, and, in the appositives, it plays an object role in the matrix and in the relative; and (v) in LSB, the relative structures do not have an element that functions as a relative morpheme ( PRADO, 2014 ; PRADO, NAVES e LIMA-SALLES, 2018), as well as the relative appositives in DGS and the restrictive and appositive ones in LIS ( PFAU, 2016). According to the analysis developed in this thesis, we understand that the restrictive and appositive relative constructions present the same syntactic structure, but with different properties with regard to the supra-segmental feature that marks the distinction between restrictive and appositive that is, possibly, related to the property of the former to restrict the referent, which can be interpreted as a kind of focus, as opposed to the marking of initial and final pauses in the appositive relative. We consider that these differences are the expression of the (in)definite relationship between D0 and CP, interpreted in the Logical Form – a hypothesis to be confirmed in future works.
