Abstract:	This dissertation resulted from a research that aimed to investigate the existence of teacher leadership in the teaching of English as a foreign language in the context of a regular public school in the Federal District. The work started from a theoretical research, seeking to understand the concepts of common sense leadership (BURNS, 1978; CARTWRIGHT; ZANDER, 1967; CHIAVENATO, 2004; FIEDLER, 1967; JACKSON; MARRIOTT, 2012; KOUZES; POSNER, 2013) until arriving to the understanding of teacher leadership and its characteristics (BERRY et al., 2010; DANIELSON, 2006; DEWEY, 1903; KILLION; HARRISON, 2006; LIEBERMAN, 2011), supported by an intrinsic and interpretative case study (CASANAVE, 2011; FALTIS, 1997; FREEBODY, 2003; STAKE , 1994) conducted with a teacher who not only knows the theory of teacher leadership, but recognizes herself within the concept. The study took place in the first semester of 2019 in a school in Sobradinho and involved both the teacher's teaching work in 6th and 7th grade classes and in collective pedagogical meetings. The instruments used for data collection were non-participant direct observation (RIBAS, 2004), free interview (ROSA; ARNOLDI, 2006) and life history (CLANDININ; CONNELLY, 2011; MINAYO, 2010), as well as field notes. Given the complexity and multiple possibilities of the topic, I chose to analyze the data obtained in light of the teacher leadership competency framework prepared by the Center for Teaching Quality in line with the National Education Association. The results corroborate the presence of teacher leadership in the practice of the referred teacher and in the profile described by Danielson (2006), namely, the instructional teacher leader who is the one who purports to be exclusively a conducting teacher, but the best teacher possible. She recognizes the importance of administrative, political and associative roles, understands that she has no profile for any of these, and feels extremely comfortable and empowered by such a finding because she is absolutely convinced that the value of the instructional teacher leader is exactly the same as that of the administrative teacher leader, the political teacher leader or associative teacher leader.
