| Abstract: | In 1938, Lacan had already pointed out to a social decline of the paternal image and the loosening of family ties. This decline was thought of being conditioned to forces that were external to the individual, such as social progress, economic accumulation and the political cataclysms. Eighty years later, it has been noticed through social, cultural and economic changes, experienced throughout contemporary times, how current have Lacan’s thoughts remained. The present research has as its main object of study the investigation regarding the paternal social role decline, which was previously supported by social discourse, and was part of a patriarchy model: State, Religion and Father. In consequence to the Industrial revolution, the World Wars of the XX century, as well as to the Post-Industrial Era, a significant transmutation of the social and cultural tissue has been observed. Following the invention of the contraceptive pill, which gave women autonomy regarding pregnancy, their entry into the labor market, and the normalization of divorce, the family structure, as well as its new dispositions, suffered great transformation. Hereafter, the decline of the paternal social role got accentuated, and its imagetic function facing society and the children changed considerably. On the other hand, the capitalist speech gets strengthened during the XX and XXI Century and, along with science, yields new objects: the gadgets – fetish objects created by technoscience, which could to get rid of the lack and, for which an imaginary meaning of a so-called desire is accredited. Nonetheless, the incitement of this circuit only reaffirms the neurotic logic of the subject’s impotence, and the failure in promising to fool castration, since, as noticed, desire has no object. Due to a direct and prompt access to fetish objects, the subjects fail to build a social connection, since the capitalist speech does not instigate this bond and, therefore, has the subject experiencing jouissance with his objects in his own solitude, prescinding others. In contemporary times, subjects use the gadgets in order to deny lack. Thereafter, a new patriarchy structure rises, having capitalism as its main leader, followed by science, neuroscience and neoliberalism, for which the social role of the father is not supported and leads the paternal otherness to get supposedly substituted by an unbridled consumerism of objects. |
