| Abstract: | Information on the primate fauna in riverside gallery forest in the Federal District is still rare, as is the association of vegetal species used by these animals as food. Hence, the objective of the proposed study is to analyze the occurrence and density of primates (Alouatta cciraya, Callithri.x peniciilata e Cebus apella) in the aforementioned are since the study areas are apparently similar and present indications of the three primates’ existence. The study also proposed to determine the anim als’ eating habits, besides other behavior aspects, relating them with seasonal variations along the year and the stratum wich they explore, allowing for the determination of resource sharing and. consequently, the simpatry among the species. The vegetal species used as food by each primate species were defined from bibliographical research and were complemented with field observations made during the year of 2001. In possession of the data regarding vegetation structure described in forestry inventories previously conducted in the area, and other information like tree crown density and average tree height, a qui-square test was made, allowing for the determination of the existing differences am ong the three gallery forest present in this study. They are all property of the IBGE Ecological Reserve, the Água Limpa (University of Brasilia) and Sucupira Farms (EMBRAPA - Cenargen). Out of the three studied gallery forest, only one, called Monjolo, presented significant difference regarding density of common vegetal species present in all of them. The height and dossel standards, however, were similar in all of them. After census verification, the presence of the three primate species in the study (Cebus apella, Alouatta caraya e Callithrix peniciilata) was confirmed in all three gallery forest, but only one species remained in each area during the period of study. The behavior and qualitative description of each primate species’ diet were observed. There were differences in the kind of food item consum ed by the animals and in the kind of food consumed during the dry and rainy seasons. The ingested food was different not only among the species, but also from season to season. There was differentiation also in the use of the vertical stratum, with the Alouatta remaining in the superior one. Cebus in the intermediate level and Callithrix in the inferior one. The behavior patterns presented differences in activity hours of Cebus apella and Callithrix penicillata, favoring the coexistence of these animals in a same area of life. Due to the insufficient amount of data collected here, it was not possible to put together and behavior analysis for the Alouatta cciraya species. Only the kinds of food items consumed by the species in one observation day are described here. For each of these gallery forest, a qualitative analysis jf the most impacting anthropic actions was done, in order to make for a better understanding of the extinction and/or migration processes of these primates and, maybe, the formulation of a theoretical model, which might relate the processes involved. |
