| Abstract: | ln this work. the problem of pianar framed structures submitted to short-term load pulses, which constitute high-intensity dvnamic pressures. is examined. The studv is restncted to the class of loadings that induce a global and ductile structural response For this purpose. the structural svstems are discretized in prismatic elements connected in nodal points The structural mass is then concentrated in some (or all) of these points. The laws of kinetics and kinematics are presented in the nodal form and established under the restriction of small displacements. We assume that the material behaves as rigid. perfectly plastic. and that the deformations develop in the so-called criticai sections. placed at the ends of the discrete elements. The adopted relations of causality are the laws of piecewise non-holonomic plasticity. The svstematic combination of the laws of kinetics and kinematics with the relations of causality generates a goveming system made up of differential equations of first order. with constant coefficients and complementary variables, which is, next. numerically integrated by means of the method of Newmark. The evolution of the dvnamic rigid-plastic response may then be obtained by the recursive solution of a sequence of linear complementarity problems (LCP), or, altematively, of dual problems of quadratic programming (QP) So. a numerical formulation. in terms of velocities. for the rigid-plastic dvnamics is generated. In many dvnamic problems. the effects of sensibility of the material to the rates of deformation (viscoplasticity) must be considered in order that the theoretical results be nearer the experimental ones. To reach this objective. the constitutive rigid-plastic relations are altered through the insertion of the law which describes the viscoplasticity proposed by Cowper and Svmonds Formulations in terms of LCPs or QPs are then established permitting that the rigid-viscoplastic response may be obtained automatically. Finallv. the proposed formulations and respective numerical implementations are validated by means of the comparison of the obtained results with the available ones in the literature. |
