| Abstract: | Seven reinforced concrete beams were tested, using high strength concrete (fc between 53,8 e 70,3 MPa), with GFRP (glass fiber reinforced plastics) bars as flexural reinforcement, with and without Steel shear reinforcement, a/d equal to 2,5, with the objective of studying the shear resistance of such beams. The beams were 15 x 30 x 300 cm, with variable longitudinal and transversal ratio of reinforcement. There is no shear reinforcement in two ofthe beams with 0,91% as ratio of flexural reinforcement. In the others beams the ratio of bending reinforcement varies between 1,60 e 3,26%, while the shear ratio of reinforcement varies between 0,096 e 0,150%. Ultimate loads, failure types, cracking, deflections, concrete and reinforcement strains are presented, together with comparisons with other results of the literature and of ultimate loads estimated by the codes. The results indicate that the two modifications proposed by Michaluk, of multiplying all the concrete contribution or only the flexure ratio of reinforcement in the concrete contribution, respectively, by the ratio of the elasticity modulus of the FRP by the Steel (Ej/Es), do not present good results. This indicates that the concrete contribution in the shear resistance is not susceptible to the ratio of elasticity modulus. The results also show that deflections obtained at “service load”, corresponding to the maximum deflection in Service allowed by the Brazilian Code NB/1, 1/300, are in average 1,24 times bigger than the estimated for the cracked section, indicating that the inertia adopted are bigger than the real one in this case. |
