| Abstract: | Active mobility has been seen as a positive strategy to encourage healthier behaviors, raise awareness of the rational use of urban spaces and land, discourage indiscriminate use of the car, and provide for efficient and sustainable transport that favors health aspects of individuals and collectivities. This research aims to study the active mobility in its relations with health and its social determinants, from the reality of Physical Education students at the University of Brasilia. The study is characterized by a cross-sectional descriptive method, with a sample of 215 university students from the Physical Education course at the University of Brasilia with na average age of 21.4 ± 4.6. The measuring instrument consists of questions about: displacement modes used in the last month; Brasília's shared bicycle system (+ BIKE); socioeconomic questionnaire and; perception about active mobility “today”. Quantitative data were statistically treated by descriptive analysis, frequency distribution, mean and standard deviation, and chi-square and Fisher's exact test, considering the significance level at p <0.05, with the help of EpiInfo programs and SPSS. As for active mobility on the way to and from university, low rates were identified among students, the higher the use of motorized by higher social class and, as the social class decreased, the greater the use of public transportation and walking. Higher frequencies of travel by public transport and car in first year students. Public transport users spent more time than those driving by car to and from university. Most of the students indicated that they practice and want to continue practicing, or think about practicing active mobility. This study revealed that active mobility is little practiced and that there is a lack of transport systems that promote or integrate it, and there are several structural, environmental and social determinations, limiting it. It contributed to stimulate discussion and awareness about the possibilities for change that favor health and provide a healthier and sustainable university environment. |
