| Abstract: | The survey of mined areas in the Federal District (DF) revealed the existence of 2,630 ha exploited by mining activities and not covered by vegetation in 2015. The recovery of these areas usually involves the incorporation of an organic matter and nutrients source to the mined substrates for reconstruction of an edaphic environment capable of providing plant growth. In the DF, sewage sludge is used in this process. However, the consequences of this practice are not fully understood. Studies have found that substrates revegetated with sewage sludge in the DF accumulate organic carbon through the time, resulting in levels twice as high as those measured in soils under forests in the same region. Less than 35% of this organic carbon are from sewage sludge incorporation. Water saturation for long periods is one of the factors that may explain this phenomenon. In this sense, it is necessary to understand the moisture regime in revegetated substrates in the Cerrado and, especially, if the moisture regime favors the accumulation of organic carbon in these materials. Therefore, the present study aimed to verify whether the moisture regime of a mined substrate revegetated with sewage sludge in the Federal District presents requirements to provide the accumulation of organic carbon. For this, we performed the characterization of an exposed mined substrate, a revegetated substrate with sewage sludge and a soil under strictu sensu Cerrado. The following variables were measured: bulk density, granulometry, hydraulic conductivity at saturation, water content at field capacity and permanent wilting point, total porosity, microporosity, macroporosity and mechanical resistance to penetration. Subsequently, the water content of these materials was determined along the rainy season of 2017/2018 as well as the water tension. It was found that the subsuperfical substrate, the revegetated substrate and the soil under Cerrado are distinct materials regarding the moisture regime. It was evidenced that the subsuperficial substrate, which is below the revegetated substrate, was subjected to a prolonged high moisture regime and presents conditions that favor the accumulation of organic carbon. |
