Abstract:	It aims to evaluate the economic impact of the public education sector in the Federal District in 2009, using as input the input-output matrix methodology to measure the economic impact of the sector in the production and generation of employment and income based on variations in final demand. The study is justified by the need to demonstrate the important role of education in economic development, not only for its performance in the formation of human capital and knowledge production, but as an economic sector that, due to its interaction with other sectors, produces Impacts on the economy. The methodology used to calculate these impacts was the input-output matrix of the Federal District for the year 2009 with 56 sectors. This methodology makes it possible to evaluate the relations between productive sectors of the economy, to identify economic impacts on production, employment and income as a function of variations in final demand or one of its components - consumption, investment or exports. From this instrument, and the possession of data on public spending on education, analyzes of the impact of public education on the economy in the generation of employment and income were carried out. The results of Rasmussen-Hirschman linkage, Bulmer-Thomas dispersion, and employment and income generators show that Public Education in the Federal District, from government investments, has the potential to stimulate the economy, impacting on the Production and the generation of jobs and income. Based on the results, it was concluded that public spending on public education is a relevant variable and should be considered in the economic development of the Federal District, due to the impacts generated by these expenditures.
