Abstract:	From the homogenization of the historical imaginary of Brasília consolidated by a historical photographic narrative based on monumental constructions, this dissertation approaches the production of images of the construction of Brasilia, recorded by the French photographer Marcel Gautherot. Photograph is taken as a historiographic tool capable of social imagery and its effects on the consolidation of representations about the city in history. In relating the collection of images produced by the photographer on the capital with those published, specifically by the Módulo magazine, as well as with the socio-political discourse that had been elaborated on the capital, is defined a clipping that seeks to establish the ethnographic role of the photographer, his aesthetic view and the power of the media in the construction of the narratives about the city. Seeks to demonstrate how the use of the photographic image in the historiography of the city is able to build representations about the spaces and landscapes, based on the assumption that the photographic production is part of the process of interpreting and writing the history of architecture and the city, contributing to the formation of collective and individual imaginaries about these spaces. Thus, the aim is to understand the discourse about the capital, considering the socio-political aspects that involved its construction and the role of Brasília in the representation of modern architecture and urbanism, opposing the consolidated imagery history of the city with the unpublished one. In this context, the photographer is placed as an interpreter of reality, based on his deliberate choice, which is his own psychic capacity, to construct the representation of the urban landscape. From the images of Marcel Gautherot, discovers a city that goes beyond modernist architectural and center of political power based discourse, highlighting the social uses of places, as well as the class and gender relations of emerging conflicts in urban space. It is proposed an image based reading of the unpublished Gautherot photographs, from a specific aesthetic cut, where the photographer represents the appropriation of residual spaces of the city in the organization of 'parallel cities' - Sacolândia and the empty spaces of the Plano Piloto - by the families of workers, having as object the ways these families habit the space and produce social relations, creating new possibilities of narratives on the construction of the capital.
