Abstract:	This research involves a study on the professionalization and on the establishment of professionality of conductors of children and youth choirs in the city of Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul in the beginning professional. The principal aim is to understand how the working professionals have articulated the knowledge acquired during their formative process with the different contexts in which they operate. The theoretical line was built considering the concepts of Monteiro (2010), Morgado (2011), Rocha (2012), Lüdke (2004), Teixeira and Leal (2012), Lima et al. (2007), Roland (2005) and Sacristan (1999), comprising the professionality as everything involving the profile of a profession where there is a direct relationship between the aspects of professional practice exercise added to the training issues and to the development of their professional qualities. We follow the methodological approach supported in qualitative research of a multiple case study. A questionnaire was used to collect data about the general characteristics of the region's choir conductors. With this initial information, five conductors of child and youth choirs of Campo Grande were chosen to make depth interviews. The selection was made using the following criteria: to have initiated their professional child and youth choir conducting in the city of Campo Grande – MS, to have less than ten years of professional experience in child and youth choir conducting and be available to contribute with the research. Following that, the collected data was analysed through three categories: professional action, elements of professionality and professional training. This analysis showed that the professionality of these conductors involves knowledge and skills from the musical and the teacher worlds. Besides that, the option for the choirs conducting was demanded by the labor market and the data showed the urgency of an intense dialogue and exchange between the formative process – especially at the university – and the working reality.
