Insanity and culture : an approach to the gender relations in the speeches of psychiatrized patients

Abstract

O presente trabalho teve como escopo assinalar como os valores e estereótipos de gênero, presentes em nossa cultura, aparecem evidentes na “quebra psíquica”, isto é, como os papéis estabelecidos culturalmente para o sujeito do sexo feminino ou masculino aparecem na experiência dos ditos “loucos” e “loucas”. A partir da análise quanti-qualitativa das falas de pacientes psiquiatrizados, os resultados apontam para a prevalência de queixas relacionais entre as mulheres e, por outro lado, para a valorização da virilidade entre os homens. Nas queixas relacionais das mulheres, o objeto de descontentamento é, na maior parte das vezes, a família e a vida amorosa. Já no discurso viril dos homens destacaram-se os temas da sexualidade ativa, do trabalho, do dinheiro e da fama. ______________________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT

The scope of the present work was to point out how the gender values and stereotypes socially established in our culture are evidenced in the "psychic loss", that is, how the culturally established roles for male or female individuals appear in the experience of the so-called “insane” people. From the quanti-qualitative analysis of the speeches of psychiatrized patients, the results point to the prevalence of relationship-related complaints among the women and, on the other hand, to the valorization of the virility among men. In the relationship-related complaints of women, the object of complaint is, in most cases, family and love life. In the male virility speech, active sexuality, work, money and fame were the most expressive topics.
